Please send a can of food to school with your student if you can. It is important for children to see us helping one another out in times of need. Character building and all. :)

School Picture Orders are DUE October 15, 2010.

Volunteers!

We could use volunteers everyday in our classroom. Seriously. And a volunteer doesn't have to be a parent, it could be a friend, aunt, uncle, grandparent, cousin, older sibling.

To help with things like:

• reading to students
• helping students with assignments
• laminating
• cleaning
• creating learning materials
• working with small groups of students on sight words, math, etc.
• helping organize our classroom library

Please sign-up to volunteer and come right on in. I have an open door policy. If I'm doing something I wouldn't want you to see, then I shouldn't be doing it in the first place! :)

Homework!!!

Reading - each night Monday to Thursday. Read the passage with your student. Read it to them. Have them read it back to you. Then ask them the comprehension questions on the back. Encourage them to look back in the passage for the correct answers.

Math - each night Monday to Thursday. If you have questions, don't worry, just do the best you can and we will go over the concepts at school.

Science Vocabulary Words –

Food chain – the order in which animals eat plants and other animals for energy

Energy source – something that can cause change and do work. The sun is the first energy source in all food chains.

Producer – makes its own food

Consumer – has to eat food to get energy

Herbivore – consumers which eat only plants to get energy

Carnivore – consumers which eat only meat to get energy

Omnivore – consumers which eat plants and meat to get energy

Decomposer – organisms which eat dead things and turn them back into soil
