We are learning subtraction in math. Single- and double-digit. We are even learning how to borrow from the tens place.
I ask the students to look at the ones place first and decide if they can subtract the bottom number from the top number. If they can, then they should subtract. If not, they need to add ten to the number and then take one away from the number in the tens place. This is borrowing. Take one away from the tens and add ten to the ones place.
It would be really great if you could practice these skills with them at home. Just give them random double digit subtraction (and addition) problems and watch them work. Help them by asking the questions.
Thank you parents!
